Serenity, Contentment, Happiness

A short break from all the portraits and events…time to relax and unwind.  Enter into that nostalgic trance of seeing only greenery and smelling the scent of fresh air. It seemed not long ago I was seeing these before my eyes and now I can only relish the thought by revisiting the place in my laptop.

It is not the most beautiful place in the Philippines but it is home for my hubby, Arish. This is the place where he grew up. Pulong Palazan is your typical farm town province in the Philippines. It’s the simple life. Away from hustle and bustle of the city, where your alarm clock is the local rooster and your resting place is under a tree.

I had fun shooting the fields, the people and empty roads with all my different lenses.

In contrast, here is a taste of what some streets in Manila look like. Many Filipinos trade the simple life for a chance to make it big in the city. And most of them will only find poverty and corruption.
Maybe it’s human nature. Men will never find contentment in what they have. They always yearn for things they don’t possess.

The Bible teaches us to be content with what God has given us. Our Father in heaven is so rich yet many do not place their faith in Him and they lose sight of the real treasures. For them, happiness is attained through material wealth. The poor worry about how they will find riches, yet the rich worry about how they could not lose their riches. A lose-lose situation without God. Like non-ending journey to nowhere.

I want to leave you with one of my favorite passages which best relate to this set.
Matthew 6:28-34
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
